  • stand alone pre-amp - James Goode on 2010-04-16 06:57:10

I have the preamplifier section of an a-4010 GSL which I would like to use as a stand alone pre-amp. How do I connect it to an AC line? It still has the wires coming off the circuit boards: on one side, there are two wires (both black), and on the other, 10, all different colors. I assume the two black wires go to a power supply, but I\'m wondering if they need to go through a transformer before going to an AC line. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

    James Goode (2010-04-16 06:57:10)

    Is this SF James Goode?

If so, this is Morgan! Weird to find you here.

I\'ve been building a couple mic pre kits lately and saw your query.

All 4 mic pres or do you have or just one of them? I imagine the power supply for the tape deck would be shared by all operations of the thing so it would reside aside from the mic pres. That would mean you need to get a properly rated power supply. Maybe there are some tech specs online. These things are going for 40 bux for parts online anyway, so it wouldn\'t be worth it really, you could just buy a whole tape deck.

Are these pres considered any good?

    How are things?

    James Goode (2012-03-29 23:10:09)

Hey Morgan! Good to hear from you. When'll you be in SF again? Let me know. The preamp section of the 4010 GSL that I have has two preamps, not four. The tape transport has glass ferrite heads, which I've heard are better than the "normal" variety, so I imagine the preamps are decent. It's OK that it's unbalanced since I have lots of old microphones that would work fine with it...

  • Speed issues. - Dimitris Karatzas on 2009-03-16 16:33:23

Hello, Guess am the only one in this Forum, placing a question. Have a P9 turntabel, that is busting my head out to fix. Has a problem with the speed (PLL). I think the PLL is locking on the speed, but unfortuantely the drive is pitching a bit up, the PLL engages to complensate the overspeed (at least thats what i researched and understood.), and it forces it to slow down. This slow down is the pitch down. So hearing is terrible.

I have found the schematics, which are very helpful, a bit inacurate on the voltage readings listed on the drawings though. Have replaced the sm6415A-4S PLL and Motor Driver IC, and other OP amps, with no luck.

I reached a point where I need hints to proceed further.

    Anyone ?

  • Explaination fix - Harry Steach Jr on 2008-07-12 17:23:21

A friend gave me this player with a unit, the problem is the black rubber band came off and will not work. Please let me know if u can give me an idea of where all its suppose to run around, in the system. Thank u, Harry steach@bedford.net

    Harry Steach Jr (2008-07-12 17:23:21)

Simple. After unplugging the unit and opening it up, there is a brass colored screw with a large washer at the left rear of the assembly. Remove this screw and tilt up and off the top pivot arm (there is a forceful spring holding it down. on the left will be a motor spindle and a wheel that the belt rides upon. I replaced mine with a rubber band of similar size while waiting to locate the correct belt. Works fine! Jeff

    Anvil (2011-10-05 01:35:39)

My TEAC PD-365. just quit on me. I replaced the rubber a couple of times already. But now it appears to be the little motor that spins the CD. Are there any motors still available for this unit or will i have to put it to rest?

I just recently aquired a teac 4010 sl reel to reel machine..Everything appears to be working well, but when I try to load up the loaded reel and take up reel, and attach the rubber caps, there\'s so little \"spindle\" sticking out they (the caps) fall off shortly after the machine starts. Are the rubber caps worn out, or am I doing something else wrong?

    Bob Keller (2008-05-09 22:10:56)

yes, they are worn out for sure. Try to get some correctly sized gromits from a hardware store. I\'ve got a 4010GSL and it doesn\'t require them, the reel lock is built into the hub.

Hi, I have recently purchased Teac w-310c stereo double cassette deck and am looking for info for use and repair if possibly wiring diagram. At present PLAY I deck does not play back through the external loud speaker systerm but Play II deck does. I do not want to open it up until I have looked at the diagram.

Can you help or are you talking about more advanced equipment? I looks the business but I want to make sure it all working to optimum performance! My present audio amp and stereo receiver is a Pioneer SX-434. I hold on to it because all the systems are separately fused and it is well laid out and easy to repair. I also have an old Sony reel to reel which is meant for lecture hall use! Richard
